Music Blog 2

An important Dallas music culture to me is the radio station 89.7 Power FM. They have been my favorite radio station since I discovered them. Power FM is a Christian rock station that plays most of my favorite bands. Due to the fact that they are a user supported station, they do not play a lot of commercials. They do have some devotionals time to time, and until recently they had a section for Christian music requests. They also stream the station for listeners not in Dallas. Their station is located in Dallas west of Sherman. I listen to Power FM all the time as I drive to and from UTD and just about any place. I love this station and hope that many more may enjoy it as well.

Music Blog 1

Personally, the music-culture that has influenced me the most is the Western Christian music culture. I have grown up listening to a lot of different music and I am a fan of most of them, however; the music that I love most is made by various Christian bands. When I was young, one of my favorite songs was "Jesus Freak" by DC Talk. Why this song was so important to me was that it showed that Christian music was not limited just to choral and orchestral pieces, but extended to popular rock genres. It also encouraged me not to fear the reactions of others concerning my faith in God. As I grew older, and as more genre were being pioneered, I listened to a greater variety of song styles such as hard rock like "Run" by Day of Fire. I also started listening to various metal bands and songs such as "Into Black" by Disciple. What interested me the most about bands like Disciple is how they take passages of scripture and use that as a base for the lyrics of their songs. In contrast, another of my favorite groups Switchfoot focuses their music on the experience of the Christian life and people who struggle with or without faith. Such an example could be found in "Meant To Live" by Switchfoot. "Meant to Live" speaks about how people who have been trying to find meaning in their normal lives may finally look for a higher power and reason to live. Similarly, when I listen to "Deteriorate", by Demon Hunter, it seems like a prayer to the lord asking for a steadfast faith in spite of our personal shortcomings. While as the music-culture I have chosen as most influential to me could easily be called too broad or even stated as not being a single music-culture, since all of the music is centered around God, and all have affected me deeply, I would not attempt to shorten my choice for its influence on me.
